Flash Developer

Background:

Bright One’s volunteers consistently demonstrate that they are learning and developing during their time with Bright One. As many of the volunteers are seeking to add to their CV and further their own careers, there is a need to create a system that recognises the new skills and expertise they have learnt, as well as how they have acted during their voluinteering experience with Bright One.

There is also a need for volunteers to feel part of one organisation, which can be a problem as more volunteers come on board and they feel more isolated. Volunteers also need a visible way to show that they are volunteering for Bright One, which also

A Bright One virtual badge is a tool that will have many uses and address many of the challenges that Bright One will face as it grows.

Basic Idea

  • The virtual badge is a widget that volunteers can add to their own web space (blog, web site, Facebook, etc)
  • It will automatically updates showing how volunteers develop and achieve goals during their time with Bright One.

Technical Specifications:

Initially, it is thought that the badge will be designed in flash, linking to a Google spreadsheet that is updated manually by Bright One for each volunteer.

The badge needs to be embeddable on blogs, websites and Facebook. This could be a piece of code that Bright One sends to volunteers upon sign up, or something that volunteers can grab themselves.

Other features of the badge could be links to various Bright One web presences, e.g. a link to the Bright One site, a call to action to donate to Bright One, a find volunteering opportunities option.
